February 2012 Books

Overview

This first book in a hot, edgy, dark paranormal romance series from a debut author has all the right stuff: a deep urban fantasy feel, a take-no-crap tough heroine and a sexy, arrogant vampire king who gets his comeuppance.
Isabel Anthony has lived a carefree existence masquerading as human, but when this party-girl meets the king of vampires, her world turns deep, dark, and dangerous double-quick. Thad Morgan is looking for the prophesied mate who will unlock his powers. But when he finally finds Isabel in a seedy nightclub, he thinks fate must have gotten it wrong.

Most of us were too turned off by how much of a total wuss the hero was.  The secondary characters of the story were more intreging than Morgan and Isabel.  There was potential for a great story but because of all the set up of the romances for the next books, the main story fell short.

Overview

In Rain Mauri’s post-apocalyptic world there are no shades of gray to survival. Until she meets a Dragon Warrior and discovers nothing is as simple as it seems.
Together, Rain and the Dragon Warrior must uncover the truth behind the nightmare their world has become. Their quest will put them in the crosshairs of a ruthless enemy, but with her determination and his skill, they might just save their race from destruction. If they can save each other first.

Personally, I was a bit bored through the first half of the book.  The concept of a world destroyed by military created dragons calls to my inner D&D geek, but not enough to make up for the lack of any smuttiness.  However, as soon as Rain meets Lieutenant Micah Caine the sparks start to fly.  They don't fly as much as one hopes but lend to promise of some steamy scenes in the following books.
